About Mary Kennedy

Mary is pictured in the front row on the left in this photo from Family Search.org. Also pictured are back: her brother, Samuel Leroy Mitton, brother-in-laws, Victor Lindblad and Richard Kennedy, sister-in-law, Julia and brother Lorenzo Mitton. In the center of the front row, is Mary's sister Ruby, and on the right is their older sister, Annie. An obituary was found for Mary Mitton Kennedy in the Deseret News dated September 27, 2007, and reads as follows:

We've lost an elegant lady. I n the evening of Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, the Matriarch of our family, Mary Mitton Kennedy, left us to join her sweetheart and husband, Richard. She was born in Logan, Utah May 6, 1907 to Samuel Bailey and Mary Hawkins Mitton. She attended the old Brigham Young College and Utah State University. She married Carrol Wadsworth in 1928, later divorced and then married Richard Bolton Kennedy. October 10, 1945, in the Logan LDS Temple. Richard passed away January 18, 1996. She was a life-long, devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, working in all the auxiliary organizations. Member of the DUP (Daughters of Utah Pioneers) in East Millcreek and Neff 33rd Camps. Sang with Allegro Chorus for 39 years. Worked many years for Granite School District in the School Lunch Program and the District Office. When asked recently by the Lt. Governor of Utah at the Centenarians' Luncheon what the secret was to her longevity, she answered, "Just keep breathing."

Survived by daughter-in-law, Beverly, daughter, Mary Louise Kennedy, four grandchildren, Rick, Dave, Bob (Lori), Janet, and special "adopted" granddaughter, Melanie Bell, six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Travis, Lindsey Kennedy, Dallas Brown, Corbie Lopez, and Patricia Bell, four great, great grandchildren, plus many devoted nephews, nieces and cousins. Preceded in death by her husband, son, Victor L. Kennedy, parents, all six of her siblings, Will, Roy and Lorenzo Mitton, Ada Lindbladt, Ann Dunn, Ruby Baker; and Marjorie Boyce, her niece who was more like a sister.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan, UT where friends and family may call Friday evening, Sept. 28th at the Mortuary, from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral. Interment: Logan, Utah City Cemetery.

It was Mary's desire that, in lieu of flowers (that will wither and die), you do something more lasting and donate to the Primary Children's Hospital, 100 N. Medical Drive, P.O.
