Mary Palmer Key

  • Birth: 1653, 1648? England
  • Death: 1670 , 1706 ?
  • Burial: Corinth Baptist Church. Kent, New Kent County, Virginia, USA
  • Spouse: John Key Jr. (1653 - 1690) (m.1670)

Children:

  1. Martin Key, Sr. (1670 - 1740)*
  2. Martin Key (1670 - 1735)*

Mary Palmer was the daughter of Capt. Major Martin Palmer and his wife, Mary. One known sibling of Mary is Martin Palmer Jr. born about 1660. Martin Palmer and his family came to America in 1653. Captain/Major Palmer is known to have married at least three more women after his first wife, Mary, died.

It appears John Key Jr and his wife, Mary,Key (Palmer) may have died a few years after they were married, as they had only one son, and no further mention of them is found.

Further, their son, Martin Key, was given land by his grandfather when he was only 7 years old. John Jr. acquired 370 acres of land in New Kent Co. on 8 Apr 1674 located on the NE side of the Mataponie River adjacent to Major Wyatt and John Haines. Edmund Key was a witness. The description of this land was important in the connection to descendents of John Jr. for three generations. The area was later made a part of King William County, and is in Spotsylvania County today.
