Relative of 2nd U.S. President, John Adams(research by Julia Knott).
The following is from: Created by: blueheron14 Record added: Apr 14, 2012 Find A Grave Memorial# 88514033 Mary Adams was reportedly born in Derry Township in Pennsylvania--probably the Derry in Westmoreland County, and married Joseph Scull Knott. The family moved to Ohio by the early 1800s; Joseph is counted among the early (1806-1814) settlers of Wayne Township, Jefferson County, Ohio, and one son, Thomas, is known to have been born in that county in 1808. The family, which grew to perhaps 11 children, moved to Richland County, Ohio, and later lived in Marion and Crawford Counties, Ohio.
Knott family descendant and researcher Ms. J. Harshbarger, suggested on her blog, "Happy Genealogy Dance," in February 2015 that the widowed Mary Knott may have remained for some time in Crawford County, Ohio, living with her son Robert Knott--possibly the older woman in his household in the 1840 census. By that time some of her sons had moved to LaGrange and Steuben Counties in northeast Indiana, and Mary Knott may have gone to live with her son Levi Knott in LaGrange County, remaining there until her death. In LaGrange County’s Riverside Cemetery are the graves of Levi Knott’s wife Sally, and one Mary Knott, possibly Mary Knott neé Adams, wife of Joseph Scull Knott.
On the LaGrange County headstone for Mary Knott, the year of birth (1773) calculated from the age at death (73 years), and the year of death (1846) both match the dates reported for Mary Knott née Adams in a family manuscript.
