About Mary "Polly" (Floyd) Lantz
The only known source for the purported middle name "Eliza" is Find a Grave, and even her grave maker lists her as "Mary F." with the "F" probably standing for "Floyd." All other sources list her name as Mary or Polly. It appears she has been confused with an Eliza/Elizabeth/Louisa Lantz, who also married a man named Benjamin Lantz. This Benjamin was born on 5 Nov 1807, the son of Philipp and Eliz. Lantz, and was baptized in the Dutch Reformed Church, Lunenburg, whereas Mary's husband was the son of Peter and Hannah Lantz and was baptized in the St Stephen's Anglican Church, Chester.
Eliza/Elizabeth Lantz was listed as Louisa Vienot on the marriage record with Benjamin Lantz,<ref> Shankle, Don, compiler, Lunenburg County and Queens County Birth, Marriage and Death Records from Primary Sources (online database, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia GenWeb Project, accessed 15 Apr 2024), Lunenburg County Births, Marriages and Deaths, letter "Lantz," entry for Benjamin Lantz and Louisa Vienot. https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~downeast/genealogy/1LANT.htm.</ref> which accords with the 1871 and 1881 Canada Censuses, which list her nationality as French.<ref> 1881 Census of Canada, (digital images, Ancestry, https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/12676418?mark=7b22746f6b656e223a22... : accessed 15 April 2024), Eliza C Lantz (66), married in Nova Scotia. Born in Nova Scotia; citing Year 1881, Census Place Chester, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Roll C_13170, Page 8, Family No 32.</ref>
In 1881 Mary and Benjamin Lantz were living in New Ross, Lunenburg; Eliza and Benjamin Lantz were living in Chester, Lunenburg, at that time, so clearly they were two different couples. Living with Eliza and Benjamin were George Lantz, age 41, and Mary J. Lantz, age 39, so some of the children attached to Mary and Benjamin may not be theirs.
Eliza and Benjamin Lantz were still living in Chester in 1891, according to the Canada Census,<ref> 1891 Census of Canada, (digital images, Ancestry, https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/12681935?mark=7b22746f6b656e223a22... : accessed 15 April 2024), Eliza Lantz (75), wife, in household of Benjamin Lantz (85) in Chester, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada. Born in Nova Scotia; citing Year 1891, Census Place Chester, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada, Roll T-6318, Family No 252, Page number 53.</ref> but by that time, Mary Lantz had died, and her Benjamin was still living in New Ross.<ref>Canada Census, 1891, (digital images, FamilySearch, https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MW2Q-K5S : accessed 15 April 2024), Benjm Lantz (79) in New Ross, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada. Born in Nova Scotia.</ref>
Elizabeth Lantz lived until 1909, when she died in Lunenburg County,<ref>Nova Scotia, Canada, Deaths, 1864-1877, 1890-1970, (online database, Ancestry, https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/12677071?mark=7b22746f6b656e223a22... : accessed 15 April 2024), Elizabeth Lantz death 1909 in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada; citing Nova Scotia Archives, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Death Registrations, 1908–1970, Volume Number 13, Page Number 65.
</ref> whereas Mary Lantz died in 1885.
