Mary House was born in England and immigrated to America under rather unique circumstances. There was a severe shortage of females living in the new English Colony of Virginia. Mary House and another English woman were recruited, as immigrants to America, by Thomas Ledbetter, father of Henry Ledbetter.

In lieu of English currency, Thomas Ledbetter was paid by a Year 1638 land grant of 99 acres of Virginia colonial land: to import (sponsor, accompany and transport) from England 2 females, Mary House and Margry (Marjory) Linsal, across the Atlantic Ocean, unto the English Colony of Virginia. Immigration arrival date in Virginia of Mary House and her colleague was 4 August 1638. Henry Ledbetter later inherited this same land and married Mary House, becoming doubly blessed in the process!

Mary House eventually became the love of life and wife for life of Henry Ledbetter. The marriage of Henry Ledbetter with Mary House, which occurred circa 1649, produced 8 identified children (2 daughters and 6 sons), declared hereinafter:

Francis LEDBETTER, son, born circa 1653.

John LEDBETTER, son, born circa 1662;

Henry LEDBETTER, son, born circa 1664;

Richard LEDBETTER, son, born 04 July 1666,

Drury LEDBETTER, son, born circa 1668;

William LEDBETTER, son, born circa 1668;

Martha LEDBETTER, daughter, born circa 1670.
