Mary's maiden name was Lewis, she married Caleb Avant about 1720. After Caleb's death in 1743 Mary later married Gershon Lewis. Mary Lewis Avant was baptized Jan. 2, 1727 at Prince Fredrick of Winyah Church, SC. This church (aka Black River Church) was later rebuilt a few miles down the road near Plantersville, SC (Georgetown County) & called Old Gunn Church.
