Mary Pittaway was born In Liberties, Worcestershire, England, daughter of John Pittaway and Mary Willis. Her first child was the child of Abraham Lewis. Mary and Abraham did not marry. She later married John Godfrey in 1845. They became the parents of nine more children. She immigrated to Utah in 1862 with her husband and 8 of their children. They came on the ship "William Tapscot" arriving in New York City. Then they traveled by train to Winter Quarters, NE and then by wagon train in the Henry W. Miller company. They arrived in Salt Lake City on Oct 10 1862. They first lived in Mendon but finally settled in Clarkston, UT.
She and John were eventually divorced.
