About Mary Catherine Maddison
Mary Catherine Harington was born on 13 July 1769 and privately baptised on 17 July 1769. A public baptism was held at Woodford on April 7th 1770 She was the fourth of ten children of Rev Dr John Harington and Rachel (Hawes) Harington. Her mother Rachel died on 12 February 1782 when Mary was 13. Mary married Captain Charles Maddison at Fort St George, Madras, India on 28 Sept 1791 There were strong family connections to India - Her brothers William and Henry Hawes were also at Fort St George; John Herbert at Calcutta; Thomas Talbot was a seaman on the East India trade and brother in law William Moffat owned ships that served the East India Company. There was one child from the marriage Rev John George Maddison (1793-1856). Her death record has not been found. The death at Steyning in 1841 is a different person. Her husbands will give thanks to Elizabeth Soltham? his companion for 20 years suggesting Mary died about 1823.
