The Rhode Island Historic Cemeteries lists Mary Coggeshall's maiden name as "Stanton," however, her maiden name was "Slocum."

The will of Giles Slocum of Newport is dated 25 December 1713.[6] It mentions:

  • sons Giles Slocum, John Slocum, Joseph Slocum, Peleg Slocum (the latter two under 18 years old)
  • daughters Elizabeth Earll, wife of Joseph Earle, Mary Coggeshall, Martha Slocum, and Ann Slocum (the latter two under 18 years old and unmarried)
  • enslaved black woman named Bess and enslaved Indian girls Audry and Sarah and two unnamed Indian boys
  • grandchildren Ann Whipple, William Almy, Giles [over a name blotted out] Coggeshall, Giles Slocum, and Sarah Russell
