Notes
The Rhode Island Historic Cemeteries lists Mary Coggeshall's maiden name as "Stanton," however, her maiden name was "Slocum."
Origins
The will of Giles Slocum of Newport is dated 25 December 1713.[6] It mentions:
- sons Giles Slocum, John Slocum, Joseph Slocum, Peleg Slocum (the latter two under 18 years old)
- daughters Elizabeth Earll, wife of Joseph Earle, Mary Coggeshall, Martha Slocum, and Ann Slocum (the latter two under 18 years old and unmarried)
- enslaved black woman named Bess and enslaved Indian girls Audry and Sarah and two unnamed Indian boys
- grandchildren Ann Whipple, William Almy, Giles [over a name blotted out] Coggeshall, Giles Slocum, and Sarah Russell
