MARY BUNN (OTHERWISE NANCY BUNN)
Born 15 April 1798/1799 Rupert’s Land; registered at school 9 September 1809 by George Geddes at York; married 27 January 1815, St. Paul’s parish, Red River; died 27 May 1873, St. Andrews parish, Red River Settlement.
In 1808, a school was operating in York Factory under schoolmaster George Geddes. All children over the age of five were to be admitted "without discrimination", but they must first be christened with a European name by the Chief Factor. Girls were represented among the pupils, three out of four students were daughters of HBC officers.
Sept 9 1808.
Mary, her brother John, Harriet Ballenden, daughter of former Govenor John Ballenden and Catherine Sinclair, daughter of William Sinclair were the first four pupils to start school at York Factory.
