Mary, a daughter of Moses Starr, was known to be in Harrison County VA (now WV) in 1787.
Married 3 times. According to Deweese, after William Nutter died [after 1825], Mary married (2) John Steib (Steel). After John's death, Mary married (3) Thomas Marks on 12/30/1855. She died after 1856.
Mary Starr married William Nutter, and her sister Sarah Ann Starr (1788-1868) married John Hickman Nutter (3/11/1768-1828c.). (not sure how or if these Nutters were related)
William and Mary sold land in July 1817. After the Nutters were forced to move from Ritchie Co. in 1818 when the land owner claimed the land on which they were living, William & Mary moved to Reedy Creek in Roane County.
According to The History of Ritchie County, WV, the widow of William Nutter went to Ritchie County in 1818 with William's brother John, who married Mary Mounts on 30 May 1803. [Author refers to her as a widow, but William should have still been alive.]
The widow of John Nutter's brother, William, was Molly or Mary Star before she was married, came about the same time John Nutter came and lived where Richardsonville [in Calhoun County] now is. Her children were David Nutter, Isaac Nutter. whose wife was Anna Holbert. Nancy who married Jacob Starcher, sr., a son of Philip Starcher, Thomas Nutter, Levi Nutter and William Nutter.
Married William Nutter on 11/5/1804. When William died in 1825, Mary married John Steib. After John's death, Mary married Thomas Marks December 30, 1855 when she was 68 and he was 70 (according to WV marriage records).
Thomas Marks was born about 1774 in Frederick County MD and moved to Cedar Creek, Gilmer County VA (WV) about 1828. His first wife was Sarah Queen, who died in 1809. Thomas married Sally Jones in Harrison County on June 12, 1809. Sally died in Gilmer County in 1839. Thomas married a widow, Mary (Starr) [Nutter] Steel [or Steib] in Harrison County VA on December 30, 1855.
Thomas Marks was an early settler and pioneer of the Stouts Run area in Harrison County. He moved to Cedar Creek in Lewis (later Gilmer) County in what is now West Virginia in about 1828. Thomas had three wives over the years (Sarah Queen, Sally Jones and Mary Starr, widow of William Nutter and John Steib), and established a very large family in West Virginia. He lived to see over 86 descendants before he died prior to 4/4/1867 at the (estimated) age of 87 years.
Thomas's first wife was Sarah Queen, who was born about 1781 and died in 1809 [Some sources say she died in 1839, but that doesn't fit the chronology. Thomas marriage his 2nd wife in 1809, and she died in 1839.]. Thomas and Sarah had 2 children, John (b. 1803) and Hiram (b. 1809). [Did she die in childbirth?]
Thomas married Sally Jones in Harrison County on June 12, 1809. Sally died in Gilmer County in 1839.
Thomas Marks married Mary Steib (Mary Starr, widow of William Nutter and John Steib) on 12/30/1855. According to the WV Vital Research Records, he was 70 and she was 68. [Both recorded ages seem too young.]
