In 1774 Richard Timberlake married, second, Mrs. Mary (Munden) Smith, the daughter of Thomas Munden and Rachel (Payne) Munden of Hanover.This Mary had been the wife of Samuel Smith, who had died during the years 1772-1773. Samuel was a son of Obadiah Smith;hence Samuel was a brother of Richard Timberlake's first wife, Mary (or Ann).Richard married his former sister-in-law. I hope this is clear.

With his second wife Richard had five children:

• Mary Timberlake, born December 25, 1776;
• Henry Timberlake, born September 20, 1777;
• Nancy Timberlake, born October 4, 1782;
• Rebecca C. Timberlake, born in 1787;and
• Betsy Davis Timberlake, born October 19, 1789.
