About Mary Olney
Not the same as Mary Whipple
Biography

Some genealogies list Mary Olney's parents as Thomas Olney and Marie Ashton. However, this Mary Olney married John Whipple. According to at least one record, the marriage of Mary Olney and John Whipple happened in 1663, their last child together being born in 1676. Mary Olney and John Mowry were married in 1683. So far it's possible this is the same Mary Olney. However, two different death dates are given: Mary Whipple died in 1676 (no specific date given - but most likely in child birth) and Mary Mowry died on July 7, 1690. And John Whipple didn't die until 1700. These circumstances say that this was a different Mary Olney.
Besides Thomas Olney, there was only one other Olney I could find who came to New England in the early to mid 1600's. William Olney and his wife Joan Olney lived in Wallingford, CT. They have only one attested child: Abigail Olney who married Nathaniel Merriman. It's possible that Thomas and William were brothers (it seems they are sometimes mixed up with each other, Thomas occasionally being called William) or cousins. William has no parents listed, and Thomas had a son named William. Mary might have been the daughter of William and Joan. No proof for or against this has come to light that I know about.
