About Mary Ann Pickett

Mary Ann McLaren was the wife of Andrew Pickett. Buried with Mary Ann McLaren is her and Andrews' son James Pickett, died in 1864, aged 6 months.
-----------------------------------------
Mary Ann McLaren was born April 13, 1832, to John and Nancy McLaren of Nelson, Ontario. She married Andrew T. Pickett April 13, 1858, and later followed him in 1870 to Vermillion, Clay County, South Dakota, where he had sought a new home for them. She died there September (or December) 3, 1875. Three of Andrew's and her children survived to adulthood: Mary Anna Hopkins (mother of Roosevelt's adviser Harry Hopkins), Eleanor J. "Ella" Whitlow, and John Thomas Pickett. Two additional children died as infants in South Dakota.

The above information is from a genealogy entitled, "The Picketts of Lowville, And Points East, South and West...," authored and privately issued by Andrew Pickett's great grandson, John Roland Scott, son of Octavia Pickett Scott Cramer.
