Henry Merrow was a Highlander born in 1625 in Scotland. Henry Merrow was captured by Cromwell's men in the Battles of Dunbar & Worcester in 1650, and sent to the US as a prisoner of war/indentured servant (bonded captive worker), and did not come on his own. He came in 1651 on the ship "Unity," and landed in Massachusetts. He settled in Reading where his children were born and later moved to Dover, NH. He was listed as a freeman in the May 22, 1677 census. He died 05 Nov 1685, in Reading Middlesex MA where he was buried. Henrie may be how his first name might have written in Scotland. The surname (Merrow) might have been Marr, Marre, Merrie, Mero, etc. The original name possibly Mc or MacMorrough. Henry's father is listed as Daniel Merrow, born about 1595. MERROW, or MERO, HENRY, Woburn, m. 19 Dec. 1660, Jane Wallis, had ch. b. 14 Sept. 1662, prob. was most of his days of Reading, freem. 1677, d. 1685; had, I suppose, John and Samuel, as Mr. Eaton gives their names among early settlers. at R.
