Mary was the daughter of Dissosway Dye and Elizabeth Petty. She married Andrew Board, a widower, in 1846. After her mother's death, her father married Mary Elizabeth Board, Andrew's daughter from his first marriage. As a result, Mary's stepdaughter became her mother-in-law, and Mary became her own grandma!
