532–533. John Bostwick
- was baptized in Tarporley, county Cheshire, England, on Thursday, October 18, 1638, and
- died in Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut, on December 11, 1688.
- He was baptised in St. Helen's Church.
Mary Brinsmade
- was born in Charlestown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, on Friday, July 24, 1640, and
- died in Stratford on December 28, 1704.
- They were married in Stratford in 1665. She took the name Mary Bostwick.
- He is the son of Arthur and Jane (Whittle) Bostwick. She is the daughter of John and Mary (Carter) Brinsmade.
They had seven children:
- 1. John Bostwick
- was born in Stratford, Connecticut, on May 4, 1667, and
- died in—say—1750.
- He married Abigail Walker. They moved to New Milford, Connecticut, in 1707 and were the second settlers of that town.
- 2. Zachariah Bostwick
- was born in Stratford on July 24, 1669.
- 3. Joseph Bostwick [#266]:
- He was born in Stratford, Fairfield, Connecticut, on May 11, 1672, and
- died in New Milford, Connecticut, before April 8, 1726.
- 4. Mary Bostwick
- was born in Stratford on February 14, 1674/5.
- 5. Elizabeth Bostwick
- was born in Stratford on October 1, 1677, and
- died in New Haven, Connecticut Colony, in May, 1716.
- Per ... Families of Old Fairfield, addenda, p. 707, she perhaps married first, Joseph Booth, and second John Mix.
- In Families of Ancient New Haven, vol. 1, p. 236, it has that Elizabeth Booth married John Mix on November 11, 1712; recorded in New Haven Vital Statistics.
- In Families of Ancient New Haven, vol. 5, p. 1198, it has that John and Elizabeth (Booth) Mix had children Elizabeth and Ebenezer.
- 6. Jane Bostwick
- was born in Stratford on April 13, 1680.
- She married John Nichols on November 13, 1705 (recorded in Woodbury).
- 7. Benjamin Bostwick
- was born in Stratford about 1684, and **died on May 15, 1739.
- He married Zerviah Johnson of Woodbury (recorded at New Milford).
Her second marriage was to William Read.
Per Jacobus: On February 4, 1677/8, John recorded land he had as a gift from his father Arthur Bostwick and by exchange with his mother Ellen Bostwick, also by purchase from Mr. John Welles.
Inventory of the estate of John of Stratford was done on November 5, 1689; heirs: widow Mary and children.
Inventory of the estate of Mary Reed of Stratford was done on December 28, 1704; administration was granted to her son Zachariah Bostwick.
The NEHGS, vol. 15, p. 86, in an obituary of Joel Bostwick, confirms the lineage of Arthur Bostwick (d. 1637) to John Bostwick (subject of this page) to his son John (and four more generations to Joel).
