About Mary Anita Rigali

brief biography

From the "Life Profile" section of the program for her Mass of resurrection:

Mary Anita Kuglen was a native of Wheeling, West Virginia, born to Edward and Frances Kuglen. Her siblings were Sam and Bob Kuglen, Emily Wiesen, Marceline MacDonald and Carolyn Salle. She graduated from Mount de Chantal Academy. In 1946, she moved to Los Angeles, attended Pasadena City College, and worked at Farmers Insurance Group where she met Richard Rigali. They often related how they fell in love at first sight, married on Jun 14, 1952 and started their family of seven children: Charlotte, Tina, Richard, Patrick, Christopher, Carolyn and Julia. In 1955, they moved from Culver City to Canoga Park and were founding members of St. Joseph the Worker Church. They had eight grandchildren Michael, Jeannette, Christopher, Jr., Katie Lynn, Brittany, Alessandra, Sarah and Mahiah.
Mary Anita was a professional homemaker, wonderful mother and diligent volunteer. Her passions included genealogy, traditions, family history, literature, poetry, music, movies and theatre. She traveled in the US visiting relatives and camping. In later years she traveled to Rome, Germany and South America. The Catholic Church was always a central focus of her life and a source of strength and spiritual growth. She studied the Bible, worked with the Christian Family Movement, Blessed Imelda Guild, Eucharistic Ministry, and the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women. She also was an active participant of the Wellness Community, a cancer support group. Often, she courageously visited the ill and aged to serve communion when she was quite ill herself. Mary Anita surrounded herself with friends devoted to service and who also realized the spiritual fulfillment of giving. She was friend to those in need and bequeathed this value to her children."

Her marriage to James Singleton was annulled by the Roman Catholic Church.

She died at 10:00 PM.
