There must have never have a dull moment with thies family members, they are Parents to 13 children 12 boys and one girl. The 4th being named after Andrew Jackson. The story goes like this Mary roads was a doctor and her second son Gordon helped her to make meds from roots and things Mary owned a big black horse.and had a medical bag. In late autumn of 1814 Benjamin her husband joined Andrew Jackson's Force at John Fords house about 2 miles south of Sandy Hook. HE faught in the battle of New Orleans he was taken down with a fever.. BenJamin's wife Mary was brought to his aid.. in a short time he recovered.. on December 1 of 1815 Mary had another son, They named him Jackson Brown in honor of Andrew Jackson. Most of Benjamin's 13 children was sent back to Kentucky to school in their turn and all were well educated..
Benjamin and his family had come from Morgan county Kentucky to Marion County MS in a covered wagon train and settled about 3 miles S.W. of white Bluffs and 5 or 6 miles north of Morgan town.. Marys family the Coopers, went on to Alabama in the span of 20 to 25 years Marys brother John Coopers Wife dies and left him with a 7 month old som named John Cooper Jr. Mr Cooper put that baby on a pillow if front of a saddle and road him all the way to Mary and Benjamin Hammonds house in Mississippi and the raised him to manhood and he married Emily Dunaway and raised a large family.
