Obituary - Pioneer Mary Ann Mayer Rogers, 90, widow of David Rogers, a pioneer of Utah and also of the Dixie Mission, died Wednesday, May 16, 1923 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Jane Burgess, of ailments incident to old age.

She was born at Bucyrus, Ohio, April 9th 1833. They moved to Nauvoo, Illinois in 1844. Her father purchased a farm at Nauvoo but in 1846 was driven out by the mob. She came to Utah in 1848 with her parents and on February 20th, 1853 married David Rogers in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In 1861 they were called to help settle the Dixie Mission. She spent many years of her life laboring in the St. George Temple and was an active worker in the organizations of the church.

She lived in her own home and did her own work until a few months prior to her death when she went to live with her daughter, Sarah Jane Burgess. She was the mother of nine children, had 49 grandchildren, 107 great grandchildren at the time of her death. She had a sister, Diantha Lollin of Salt Lake City and a brother, George Mayer of Alpine living at the time of her death.

Funeral services were held in the Stake Tabernacle at 4 p.m. Friday conducted by Bp. James S. Jones. Prayer was offered by Elder H. L. Reid. Singing was furnished by the West Ward Relief Society Choir and a solo by Miss Mary Atkin. Speakers were President David H. Cannon, Elder George B. Whitney, and President Edward H. Snow.
