Born at Crowcroft (now part of Manchester and originally in the County of Lancashire), Mary Knight was the only daughter of Samuel Knight.
Her mother may have been Ellen Kirkby, who married a Samuel Knight in Manchester Cathedral on Nov. 24, 1798. Mary may be the Mary Knight christened at Manchester Cathedral on Oct. 28, 1801, one of five children christened there to Samuel and Ellen (the others were William, John, Samuel and Ellen). Perhaps Ellen died young, leaving Mary as the only surviving daughter.
Mary Knight married Charles Blayney Trevor-Roper on Dec. 5, 1821 in Manchester. They were married at St. John's, Deansgate, in the presence of Samuel Knight and CB Trevor Roper (Charles' father Cadwallader Blayney?). Charles Blayney was noted as "of this parish, of Neston in the county of Chester". Mary was a spinster, of Manchester.
The Trevor-Ropers had ten children, all of whom reached adulthood. They lived at Plas Teg, near Hope, Flintshire. After her husband's death, their son Col. Charles James Trevor-Roper inherited Plas Teg. Mary then took up residence with her in-laws Richard and Marian Trevor-Roper of Leeswood Hall near Mold. She was not yet listed with the family at Leeswood in the census of April 2, 1871.
