About Mary Electa Ross

Obituary

Mary E. Ross was born July 4, 1845, and departed this life Oct. 10, 1928, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Samantha Davidson, in Meridian, Idaho; aged 83 years, 3 months and 6 days.

She was married on Feb. 25, 1866 to A. J. Ross, who died in 1900. To this union were born nine children, six girls and three boys. Of them, Charley and Verlie died at the ages of 16 and 17 years. The seven children surviving are Mrs. Samantha Davidson of Meridian, Idaho, Mrs. Clarissa Jones of Boise City, Idaho, Mrs. Ida Dodson of Kuna, Idaho, Mrs. Mahala Marshall and Mrs. Minnie Logan of Greenfield, Missouri; Willis and Ernest Ross of Long Beach, California; also leaving one sister, Sarah J. Cantrell, 89, of Dadeville, Missouri and one brother, Willis E. Jerome, 78, of Warrensburg, Missouri.

She became a Christian at an early age, and lived a devoted, consecrated life every day and hour, much of the time in prayer upon her knees, until ill health struck her. She was a kind and loving mother and tried to raise her children in the admonition of her Lord. She was a friend to everyone, a comfort in time of need. She studied and read her Bible daily having read her blessed Book through a number of times, and yet she never tired; it was always new to her. She loved and lived the old-time religion, always bringing a feast to her soul. She helped in times of trouble or calamity of her good neighbors and friends, in giving to them a supply of sympathy and assistance in many ways, and loved all Christian workers.

At the time of her death she was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church of Greenfield, Missouri, for several years, and had been a faithful member till the sweet-voiced angel came and wafted her into the pearly gates of heaven. Her last words were: "I am with Jesus. Glory! Glory!

Sister Ross' body was shipped back to Greenfield, Missouri, and funeral services were conducted at the Cumberland Presbyterian church by Rev. J. F. Daughtrey in the presence of a large audience of relatives and friends. Then the body was taken to Hampton church near Everton, where another funeral service was conducted by Rev. W. R. Russell of Everton and the remains were quietly laid to rest beside her husband in Hampton cemetery. She leaves a large number of relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
