About Mary Ross
Biography
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/223642267/mary-ross
The mention of St. Marks Parish and the implication that Gideon Gibson named a son Roger suggest that this Roger Gibson who died in 1752/3 might be the elder Gideon’s brother; at least some other researchers think so.
Roger was a Justice of the Peace from 1748-51 and a magistrate for Craven County just prior to his death. His wife was Mary (probably Wright) and they had children:
- Roger,
- Samuel,
- Jane (m Alexander Smith) and
- Mary (m Isaac Ross)
who are later associated with Kershaw County, SC, according to Roger’s (d 1752/3) widow’s will made in 1782 and the will of his son Roger dated 1786.
Per list of both her mother's and brother's bequests to her children, the children of Mary Gibson (1740 - 1774) and her husband Isaac Ross of Stony Hill (1732 - 1781) were:
- 1. Isaac 21 Jan, 1764 SC.-27 Jan, 1821 Elmore Co, AL.=Juliana Parthenia Brown.
- 2. Elizabeth p1775 SC.
- 3. Jane p 1775 Sc.
- 4. Mary p 1775 SC.
- 5. Euphemia p 1775 SC.
Samuel was the son of Isaac's first wife Elizabeth Cheek.
The children by Mary Gibson received bequests from their mother's mother Mary Gibson and their uncle Roger Gibson, Jr.
