"Capital Merchant Ends Life By Poison Leon Schloss, 53, Is Found Dead in Butler, Pa.; Missing There Overnight. - - Special to the Washington Post. - - Butler, Pa., March 1. - Ill health, following a nervous breakdown, is supposed to have caused Leon Schloss, 53 years old, for 20 years a clothing merchant here, but for the last eight years a resident of Washington, to drink poison, which this afternoon caused his death in the Butler County Memorial hospital.
Schloss had been visiting his sister, Mrs. Sarah Kaufmann. Last night he left the house and did not return. A search ended at noon today, when he was found unconscious. He was removed to the hospital, where it was stated he was suffering from carbolic acid poisoning. He died two hours later.

"'Despondent Man Drains Poison Vial - Leon Schloss, Former Butler Clothing Merchant, Ends Life Suddenly Sunday.'
Leon Shloss, aged 57, a former clothing merchant of this city, and for the last eight years a resident of Washington, D. C., died at 1:45 yesterday afternoon in the Butler County Memorial hospital of poison self-administered earlier in the day. Long continued ill health, caused by a nervous break-down sustained about a year and a half ago, is believed to have been the motive for ending his life.
Mr. Shloss Came to Butler last Thursday to visit his sister, Mrs. Sara Kaufman of 501 West Jefferson street. On Saturday afternoon he went up town for a walk and when he did not return in the evening search was made for him.
About 12 o'clock yesterday he was found at the residence of Fred Weeks. 301 South McKean street, where he had rented a room the previous evening. When his condition was discovered physicians were called and he was taken to the hospital.
Besides his sister, Mr. Shloss leaves a brother, Max Shloss of Belle Vernon, Pa.; his wife, Mary McBride Shloss, and a son, Leon Shloss, Jr., of Washington, D. C.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m., Tuesday, March 3 at the Dengler funeral chapel, West Jefferson street."
