Mary Schmucker

Johannas (John), also known as Hans, Schmucker was born in 1789 in the Canton of Bern, Switzerland.

In about 1811 he was married to Mary Klopfenstein who was born in 1780 in Germany. They had a family of six children, four boys and then two girls.

In 1823 Johannas decided to come to America.

While visiting friends in Somerset Co., Pa. Johannas took sick and died a young man. He was 34 years old, leaving his wife and six young children. He was buried in Somerset Co. Later friends helped his widow and family on to Holmes Co., Ohio where her family was raised.

Mary died after 1850. Census records show she was living with her son Christian in Berlin Twp., Holmes Co., Ohio in 1840 and with her youngest dau., Yost and Mary Miller, in Walnut Creek Twp., Holmes Co., Ohio in 1850, at the age of 70 years.
