Mrs. Mary A. Shanes, aged 88 years, five months and eight days, died at the home of a son, Grant Shanes of Brave, Friday, February 17, 1939 at 12:00 o'clock noon. Death was due to ailments incident to her advanced years.

The deceased was born September 9, 1850 in Wayne Township, a daughter of Isaac and Barbara Cumberledge Stiles, deceased, and was the widow of John Shanes, who died in 1904. The following children survive; Mrs. Harriet Zook of Chickhasha, Okla., G.W. Shanes of Sharon, Grant Shanes of Brave, Mrs. Lucretia Phillips of Wadestown, WVa., Dennis Shanes of Hominy, Okla. and Mrs. Lydia Wells of Fairmont, WVa. Twenty-five grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Shanes was a life long resident of Wayne Township and was a member of the Kent M.E. Church at Brave.
