About Mary Silvester
By 1664 Mary married Capt. Joseph Sylvester, son of Richard Sylvester (ca 1608-1663) & Naomi Torrey (-bef 26 Nov 1668). Joseph was born on 12 Apr 1638 at Weymouth, MA. He had settled north of Church Hill. In the Indian raid of 1676 his house was burned. He was a captain under Col. Benjamin Church in the Eastern Expedition in 1689. In the Phips' Canada Expedition of 1690 he was Captain of a company in which there were 16 men from Scituate, many of whom never returned. Capt. Sylvester died in this expedition.
Mary Barstow Silvester was born 28 OCT 1641 in Scituate Settlement, Plymouth Colony. She died 16 NOV 1708 in Stonington Village (New London) Connecticut Colony (see below). Buried Wequetequock Cemetery in Stonington, Connecticut
Mary, a daughter of William and Anna (Hubbard) Bastow was born at Scituate Settlement, Plymouth Colony ("New England Marriages Prior to 1700" compiled by Clarence Almon Torrey; pp. 411 and 724; The Genealogical Publishing Company, Inc.; Baltimore, Maryland; 1985; 974.0 NEa/Marriage SCGS. That Mary Barstow was a daughter of William is proved by a deed made by her brother, Joseph Barstow, confirming an act of his father William in conveying property to his (William's) son-in-law Joseph Sylvester (Reg 85:261) (The William Barstow Family by Arthur Hitchcock Radasch; South Yarmouth, Massachusetts; 1964; CS71.B313 1964 CSL)
