Biography

Mary Paine, daughter of Thomas Paine IV and Mary Lamson, was born 22 Oct 1693 in Dedham, Suffolk [Norfolk] County, Massachusetts.16 Oct 1693

She married 22 Dec 1715 in Dorchester Josiah Smith of Dorchester, probably son of Asahel and Elizabeth Smith, born in Dedham 17 Dec 1685.[4]

They settled in Dedham, since their daughters were born there. They possibly lived with her parents.

In 1725 her widowed father died in Dedham mentioning in his will granddaughters Mary & Rebecca Smith and leaving the bulk of estate to daughter Mary & her husband Josiah Smith.

In 1765 Mary Smith of Dedham widow [age 72] deeded land to Thomas Pain of Needham, weaver. He was her son-in-law Thomas Paine b. 1716, son of her uncle John Paine of Needham.
