About Mary Ellen Stevens

From http://www.findagrave.com:

"Mary Ellen Jackson, born near Staley, Champaign County, Illinois, daughter of George Washington Jackson and Livonia Deborah (White) Jackson. Granddaughter of Benjamin Jackson. Mary E. Jackson was raised and educated in Champaign/Urbana, Illinois and became a school teacher at age 18, after graduating from normal school and passing the teaching exam. She taught in several schools around Champaign, Decatur and Rantoul, before going to Hays, Kansas where she also taught. She related that she rode to and from her schools in the caboose of freight trains. Mary was raised a Baptist, a faith to which she remained the rest of her life, being active in various offices and in the Women's Missionary work, especially in Barnum Baptist Church, which became Grace Baptist Church, in Denver, of which she was a member for over twenty four years, at the time of her death. Mary's untimely death, at the age of 57 years and 11 months, of a Coronary Thrombosis, was mourned by her family and a host of friends. Besides her husband, she left three children, four grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. She was preceeded in death by one sister and five brothers. Her two sons, Eugene and George, were serving in the Armed Forces on active duty and overseas during WWII and were unable to be with the remaining members of the family at the time of her death. When her husband died July 13, 1952, he was buried beside her, having been together in life, thirty four years and eleven months, they were together in death. Had she lived until June 9, 1944, they would have been married 35 years. They had lived at 730 Lowell Blvd., Denver, for 24 years. They are buried in Fairmount Cemetery, Denver, Colorado in the same plot as Mary's brothers, Charles Raymond and Benjamin Franklin Jackson. "
