Dr. John Taliaferro was a Baptist minister, teacher and physician originally from Caroline County, VA. In 1769 he obtained land in Pittsylvania County, VA. As the Revolution began, he organized a company of minute men of which he was Captain. He followed Green's Army as a surgeon.
(from VA State Library, Rept., Vol 8, page 426. Natl. No. 139572 DAR.)

In 1779 he sold his Virginia land and moved to Surry County, NC with friend, Bernard Franklin and settled on Little Fisher's River. He left Surry County 1791, after dividing his land in Surry County among his children who wished to remain there, and moved to Georgia (eventually settling in what became Wilkinson County. His will was probated in GA. by terms of Ordinary Court, July 1821, pages 37-38.

The Taliaferro family descends from Robert Taliaferro, who arrived in Virginia 1647 on the ship "Honour" and became a wealthy planter in Gloucester and Old Rappahannock Counties.

Although Robert Taliaferro was an Englishman, born in London, his grandfather was a Venetian merchant named Bartholomeo Taliaferro who became a denizen (citizen) of England in 1562.

Note***
The probate of her father's will disproves the claim that she died prior to 1796 as she is named in his will of that year. This would also prove that she had followed her husband to Baldwin Co, Georgia and that she died there. This was the same county Dr. John married for a second time in 1814 before moving to Wilkenson Co, GA where he died.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Nov 24 2023, 19:13:51 UTC
