About Mary Priscilla Venable
Born at "Slate Hill", she stood 5'5" with blue eyes, brown hair and a faultless clear complexion. She was educated by governesses and later went to Mr. Reid's boarding school in Lynchburg where she became proficient in French, music and Latin. She was also proficient on the piano and developed a keen executive presence in the household. At "Longwood" she wed on 7/16/1834 Thomas Frederick Venable of "Haymarket", Prince Edward County, her cousin. They lived at "Scott-Greene" in Prince Edward County, a plantation that was given to her by her father. Prior to the war between the states, it was reputed to be a beautiful home and estate. At some point her husband moved to "Kinderton" in Florida where he passed away.
Married her cousin.
Mary was proficient in French and Latin.
