Mary Waters

Aunty Molly appears to have married Mr Croft early in her life. By the time I knew her, she was widowed from Jack Waters. She lived with my nanna (her sister Lucy) in Tatura. She and Jack had been living in Caroline Street, south, in South Yarra in the fifties and sixties. This is now a very swish address, but back then it was a slum. Mum suspects that Jack was an SP bookmaker. Being poor, Aunty Molly was a victim of the social workers of that time. I don't know the details, but her children were taken from her because the social workers considered she didn't have enough money to look after them properly. One daughter, Betty Graham, was fortunate enough to end up with Molly's parents, but I don't know what happened to the rest.
