Reference: RG76 C 1 a ****************************************** am enclosing the briefest of brief records about Mary Waterston, who came into the care of William Quarrier firstly in the City Orphan Home in Glasgow in April 1878. As you can see, she transferred to B of W (Bridge of Weir) in Sept 1878, just after it opened (with just two cottages on the site, ultimately over 40) The reference numbers refer to letter and reports on her progress in Canada: unfortunately in general, these were not kept. The diary entry says this: Tuesday April 23,1878 Mary Waterston 8 years of age. Mother dead. Father David Waterston resides at 24 Elderslie St and has been today gone into the Western Infirmary. Brought here by Miss McKay 54 Kelvin (Grove?) St who also recommends the case. Galbraith Camden East (?) SO although not much, we have a couple of names to work with, and confirmation it is in fact her. Fathers name, residential address is the same as on David Waterston's death certificate, and we know David died at Western Infirmary in the 15th of May 1878. BIOGRAPHY: Mary married George Comber 26 July 1908 in Fairfield/Suisun California. George Comber was born in Guelph (?) Canada in 1855. Mary and George lived in the area near Dixon California and had 3 sons: David Clifford - b. 18 Dec 1909, Dixon CA/ d. 27 Sept 1990, Dixon CA. David was my Grandfather. George E. - b. 1913, Dixon CA/ d. 15 January 1930 from accidental gunshot wound while hunting William - b. 1915, Dixon CA/ d. 2 April 1999, Burlingame CA Mary Waterston died 24 Dec 1950 in Napa CA
