About Mary Jane Weaver

In company with her parents, she began to cross the plains in 1860. They wintered at Council Bluffs and reached Utah in the fall of 1861. The family made their first home at the mouth of the Echo Canyon, later moving to Coalville.

She and her sister, Elizabeth, taught summer school in the old rock schoolhouse in Coalville in 1860. She attended the University of Utah and graduated in 1880. She taught school in her own home in Echo until the town was organized into a school district. A faithful church worker, she served in many capacities, including that of L. D. S. Summit stake relief society board member.
