Mary Ownby was the daughter of Nicholas H Ownby and Mary Ogle-Ownby. Mary was born in Sevier County, Tennessee. Mary's first marriage was to Rev Eli Thomas Ogle, son of Harkless T Ogle and Margaret "Peggy" Ownbey-Ogle. Mary and Eli married in Sevier County on Sept 4, 1856. Rev Eli Ogle and Mary "Ownby" Ogle had the following Children;
1. Washington Arthur Ogle 2. Susannah "Susie" Ogle 3. Nicholas Harvey Ogle 4. Dicy Jane Ogle
Rev Eli Ogle was a farmer and a Baptist minister. He was severely injured at a log rolling which resulted in his death. He left a will dated 16 March 1867 in which he named his wife, Mary, and four children. (Will Book I, p116)
Mary Ownby-Ogle remarried John H "Bullhead" Whaley. They married June 17, 1870 in Sevier County, Tennessee. John H Whaley was the son of William M Whaley and Mary Ann "Ogle" Whaley . John "Bullhead" Whaley and Mary "Ownby"-Ogle-Whaley had the following Children;
1.Mary Roseann "Nannie" Whaley 2. John Mitchell Whaley 3. Stephen "Steve" Whaley 4. Laura Whaley 5. Isabelle Whaley 6. Sophia Whaley 7. Martha Whaley
