Per notes received from Vera Watterson, a descendant:
Maky Nance Hawkins was part Indian, of the eastern tribes of Tennessee. Family tradition has long held that May Nance Hawkins, aka Whitefeather was full Indian living in western Virginia or eastern Tennessee. Maybe Sawra Indians.

Someone posted a reply that the Abner you are seeking info about is possibly the son of WILLIAM HARRELSON, married to MAKY NANCE HARRELSON, aka WHITEFEATHER, (SIC). Folks, please, there is NO DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE OF ANY SYCH MARRIAGE, NOR ANY ALLEGED DESCENDANTS OF SUCH A MARRIAGE. THJIS IS SPECULATION BASED ON SUPPOSED ORAL HISTORY.

From ((XXXXX@XXXX.XXX))

See note from Harrelson MSg Board dated 2 Jan 2004 under her husband William Harrelson.

From the Harrelson Message Board Post:Perhaps there IS evidence of Whitefeather. This, in part, from a letter date 16 Feb 1981, by Irene Charlton. (If you look at the Acknowledgements in Danny Haralson's 2nd book, you will find this generous and wonderful lady listed. I'm on there, too, Mrs W.J., still in Tucson but not at that address)Reference to William, son of John Harrelson:"He was one of the Long Hunters from Virginia into Tennessee. Most of the search was on him plus a letter claims he married an Indian, called Nanna or Whitefeather. I can prove that Whitefeather had a son named William who married Perdenny Kelly. William and Perdenny (Kelly) Harrelson lived in Knox Co. Tennessee until land he purchased was proved to be in Grainger Co Tennessee and that is where he died. Perdenny moved to Missouri with part of her children - Hawkins Peck, Caswell, Argenia and so on....."I am sure that by now Mrs Charlton has gone on to here reward, but perhaps Danny can help; who has all of her records? She was dedicated to Harrelson research, a pioneer B.C. - that's before computers! ALWAYS keep records of where you get your information - so that you may verify any query you may get.Hope this helps answer some questions - or perhaps cause many more? Norma.
