About Mary Whittier
Children by wife, Ann Mitton, not in order of birth.
3. Mary, unmar. in 1 7 1 7, and living in Boston; later mar. Nathaniel Witcher of Salisbury.
Mary Brackett was the daughter of Capt. Anthony Brackett and Anne (Mitten) Brackett.[1][2] She was probably born about 1668.
Mary Brackett came from a family that was one of the first to settle the area now known as Portland. As a young girl, she and some relatives had been taken captive by a party of Indian raiders and marched into the wilderness before they escaped in a canoe. Later, in separate incidents, her grandparents, father and brother were killed.[3]
