Maria Demarest was born to Peter and Maretje Meet Demarest on February 15, 1712, in Hackensack, New Jersey. She married William Peter Ruttan on December 11, 1731, in her hometown. They had nine children in 25 years. She died as a young mother on August 24, 1740, in Bergen, New Jersey, at the age of 28.

Maria used the last name DeMaree. This is her fathers LN in her baptismal church record.[1][2]
