About Massey Graves Perdriau, # 1

  • William Goodwin Barrett married Massy Perdriau and had 8 children between 1832 and 1848.
  • He married again after Massy's death, Mrs. Esther Dupre Monk, and moved to Clarke County, Georgia, near Athens. He had 4 more children there. William gave land for a church, named Buena Vista Baptist Church (also known as Barrett's Church), which was located near his residence and his mill (known as Barrett's Mill) on Nowhere Road. William had been a teacher in South Carolina, and he continued to teach in Georgia. He included among his students Henry Grady, one of the most famous leaders of the post-Civil War South. William Barrett died in Clarke County on August 2, 1876, and is buried in the Buena Vista Cemetery.
