Fowler - Master Chief Petty Officer (Master Diver), U.S. Navy (Retired), Roger Leo MacDanold, age 74, of Fowler, Indiana died peacefully at his home on November 10, 2018. Born on October 22, 1944 in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late Roger M. MacDanold and Ruth Seeley.
After graduating from South New Berlin Central High School located in South New Berlin, New York, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served multiple tours of duty including during the Vietnam War and the Gulf War. In 1991, Roger finally retired from the U.S. Navy as a Master Chief Petty Officer (Master Diver) after 29 years of loyal and faithful service to his country.
He received numerous awards and decorations during his naval career including the Master Diver Qualification, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Combat "Valor" Device, Two awards), Navy And Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Combat "Valor" Device, Three awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal (Four awards), Combat Action Ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps Presidential Unit Citation, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation w/ Operational "O" Device, Battle "E" Ribbon (Three "E" Devices), Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation (Two Awards), Navy Unit Commendation (Two Awards), Coast Guard Unit Commendation w/ Operational "O" Device, Navy Overseas Service Ribbon (Four Awards), Navy Sea Service Ribbon (Four Awards), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Medal (Palm Device), Republic of Vietnam Civic Action Medal (Palm Device), Vietnam Service Medal (Four Bronze Stars), and the Navy Expeditionary Medal.
Roger was a self-taught and talented guitarist, watch-smith and a Master Mason. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisher and gardener. He visited every continent except Antarctica and was a colorful storyteller of his many travel experiences. He also thoroughly enjoyed playing with his two grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kristina (Mallory); his three children, Roger Leo Seeley, III, James R.R. Seeley (m. Dedra Seeley) and Margaret DeLong (m. Matthew DeLong); his two grandchildren, Francesca and Emerson Seeley; his brother, Fred Seeley (m. Cheryl Seeley); his sisters, Diane Patton (m. Phil Patton), Margaret McCart (m. Doug McCart) and Elizabeth Belgard (m. William Belgard); and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 5:00PM to 8:00 PM at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Memorial service will be Monday, November 19, 2018 at 1:00PM at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. A private graveside service with full military honors will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia.
