About Matilda Jane Jeter
d/o Col. William Allen Buford & Sarah (Leftwich) White m: Tinsley White Jeter May 28 1873,Cass Co.,Mo.
Matilda Jane White married Tinsley White Jeter in Cass County, whom she met when the family was displaced during the civil War. Col Wm A White turned the farm over to them and went to Rolla where he was in business until 1883.
Tinsley W. Jeter was a Captain in the Old Dominion Rifles which later became Co. C 28th Virginia Infantry of the Confederate Army, being with lee throughout the war at the time of surrender at Appomattox. Tinsley's ancestors were ,as were his father-in -laws, Col. Wm A.B. White, early settlers in colonial America, settling in Bedford County, Virginia, before the Revolutionary War. Tinsley was born May 4, 1839. He died August 15, 1877 from the effects of inhaling foul gas while being lowered into his well. After Tinsley's death Matilda's brother Milton (Mitt) White, lived with her and helped rear the family. Col. White also, returned from Rolla and made his home with them . He suffered a paralytic stroke in 1895, but lived until September 28, 1904 and is buried in the Belton Cemetery. Matilda died march 15 1919, the day after daughter Sarah's death. Both died of influenza and are buried in the Belton Cemetery.
Tinsley and Matilda Jeter had three daughters: Sarah Ann born Apr 17 1874, died March 14, 1919; Edna Earl born November 7, 1875, married Greenup Berry Dodson. Tinsley White Jeter born September 21, 1877, married Herman R Hipsher she died May 20 1968 in Lane, Kansas.
