Hij stamt uit een familie uit Münster, die betrokken was bij de beëindiging van het Doperse Rijk aldaar (1535/1536). Hij was eerst pastoor te Albersloh (ten zuidwesten van Münster), maar werd van zijn priesterambt vervallen verklaard. Tijdens de contrareformatie in Duitsland (ca. 1571) vluchtte hij naar Holland. In de acta van de Provinciale Synode van Hoorn van 9 mei 1580 wordt hij genoemd als predikant in Noord-Holland zonder besloten gemeente. Hij mocht voor de tijd van zes weken naar Friesland en dan beslissen of hij een eventueel beroep uit Friesland zou aannemen. Zo kwam hij in de grietenij Hennaarderadeel als enige predikant. In 1582 ging hij naar IJlst, maar de Synode van Franeker van 1583 oordeelde dat hij naar Sneek moest. In 1586 en 1587 was hij deputaat naar de Synodes van Leeuwarden en Sneek. Van de laatste was hij secretaris. Kort daarop moet hij zijn overleden. Hij was in 1587 een van de medeondertekenaars van het smeekschrift aan Philips II.
