About Matthew Ellison
SOURCE: ELIZABETH ELLISON ERWIN FAMILY BIBLE RECORD PRIOR TO 1795
Matthew was named as a brother by Elizabeth Ellison Erwin. He and
his wife Mary were married in 1743. Their five children were also named.
Matthew's death was given as "Friday evening at 2 o'clock, Feb. 21,
1766." This information was taken from a typed copy and this seems to be
a typographical error. The other records seem to indicate the correct
date as 1786.
A few records have been found of Matthew. He and Robert Ellison
were witnesses to the Will of John Matthews. This is just another record
which indicates the closeness of the Ellison and Matthews families. Mary
who is mentioned as a daughter of John Matthews was probably the wife of
this Matthew Ellison.
Matthew lived on Jeffery's Creek in Williamsburg County, SC. This
land was later listed in Marion County when Marion County came into
existence.
