Mattie E Goldsmith Knight
Birth: Apr. 19, 1862 Death: Dec. 4, 1932
The Carnegie Herald, Wed., Dec. 21, 1932 Mattie E. Goldsmith was born April 19, 1862, and passed away with the setting of the sun, Sunday, Dec. 4, 1932, at her home in Carnegie, Oklahoma, at the age of seventy years, seven months and fifteen days. She was married to Geo. W. Knight December 27, 1876; to this union ten children were born.
Her husband and two children preceded her in death. The remaining eight children: Mrs. Redding and Mrs. Doyle Carnegie; Mrs. Rutledge and Mrs. Cheek, Lawton; Mrs. Fertig, Hollywood, California; George Knight, Mountain View; Burle Knight, Carnegie, and Dexter Knight, Fort Cobb were all present at the bedside, and with their children and a host of friends are left to mourn their loss. But we mourn not as those who have no hope for we know where to find her.
Mother Knight, as she was commonly known, was converted in early life, and united with the Methodist church, giving herself unreservedly to the service of her Lord, in the church she loved. Having held many positions of responsibility, such as Sunday school teacher, president of Women's Missionary society, and steward, she filled all of these most successfully. For nineteen years she had been the custodian of the emblems of the sacrament of the Lord's supper and ever delighted in preparing for that most sacred and helpful service.
Thru these channels of service the numerous lives she touched 'will rise up to call her blessed,' and will shine as the stars in her crown which she wears in the "Paradise of God." for He has said, "Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
Her funeral was conducted by the writer, assisted by her pastor, Rev. R.I. Graham, and Rev. F.L. Giles of Mountain View, on December 6, in the church where she labored.
We laid her body to rest beneath a flower-covered mound, beside that of her husband in the Carnegie cemetery, there to await the Resurrection Morn. L.D. Hawkins
