Angel In An Apron

Everyone remembers, catfish and collard greens,
A big bowl of coleslaw with a glass of sweet tea.
Served with a smile, each and every time,
More often than not she wouldn't charge you a dime.
She would come work the fryers when the tickets backed up,
She may have been old, but she'd still show us up.
She would sit and hull peas, for hours on end,
Just to cook a big meal for all of us kids.
She was a cook to most, and a grandmother to us,
An angel in an apron, and boy was she tough!
From sun up to sun down, from day in and day out,
She worked in the garden, then she'd cook in the house.
There was never such a thing as too many mouths to feed,
We never left her house without something to eat.
Through the good and the bad, and the thick and the thin,
A wonderful woman and a welcoming friend.
