Spinning Up Gütermann (The History of Gütermann Threads) Gütermann & Co. is Born:

Born October 12th, 1828, Max Gütermann found his way into the sewing notions industry working as a clerk in the silk trade in Vienna, which was, at the time, one of the world's largest silk trade centers. He founded Gütermann & Co. in 1864, operating primarily in simply dyeing and spooling silk thread.

Gütermann saw the possibility for scientific innovation in the industry and became one of the first companies to produce a stronger, more elastic silk thread for less cost. This innovation allowed for a smoother thread which was far less likely to kink and not than the exponentially more expensive net sewing silk on the market at the time.

During this period of innovation and onward into the future, Gütermann followed the company vision; "To produce the best sewing silks in an economic manner and to sell them so that the consumer can obtain them as cheaply as possible."

Gutach; 1867:

Merely three years after founding Gütermann & Co., Gütermann made the move that would remain unchanged to this day; a major production site in Gutach was acquired while the companies headquarters were moved to Elztal, Germany. Seeking the "soft" water of the Elz and a strong workforce, these changes would give Gütermann & Co. the opportunity to build on their already innovative history into the future.
