In the days of female couples today headed by "Carmokli" (Tali and Liron), the media usually mark "The Sisters of Joseph" as the first female pop duo in Israel, but few know that the first female pop duo in the country were the sisters Riri and Maxa Marco, who operated in the country in the mid-1930s. 60.

They were born in Romania in the late 1930s and immigrated to Israel in the 1960s. Their father was a violinist who played in various orchestras, including in the recording of Aris Sun in the mid-1960s.

The sisters were formed as a duo by the musician Moshe "Physical" Oshrovitz (one of the pioneering jazz groups in Israel) and sang as part of his orchestra in 1963.

The two acted as a duo until 1966, largely remembered for a number of original hits recorded in 1965: "My Guy," "Kissing in the Winter," and of course their hit "Motorcycle" (which in 1968, when they were already disbanded, was of course recorded by singer Ilana Sweet and became identified More with her than with them).

In 1966 the pair broke up, Riri remained in Israel and continued to perform at various clubs until she became a family woman and retired from the entertainment world and Maxa lived in the US and passed away about a year and a half ago.

בימים של צמדים נשיים כיום בראשן "כרקוקלי" (טלי ולירון), בתקשורת נוהגים לרוב לסמן את "האחיות יוספי" כצמד הפופ הנשי הראשון בישראל, אך מעטים יודעים שבעצם הצמד הפופי הנשי הראשון בארץ היו האחיות רירי ומקסה מרקו, שפעלו בארץ באמצע שנות ה-60.

הן נולדו ברומניה בסוף שנות ה-30 ועלו לישראל בשנות ה-60. אביהן היה כנר שניגן בתזמורות שונות ובין השאר בהקלטותיו של אריס סאן באמצע שנות ה-60.

האחיות הוקמו כצמד על ידי המוזיקאי משה "פיסי" אושרוביץ (מאושיות הג'אז החלוצי בישראל) ושרו במסגרת תזמורתו בשנת 1963.

השתיים פעלו כצמד עד שנת 1966 כשהן זכורות בעיקר בשל מספר להיטים מקוריים שהקליטו בשנת 1965: "הבחור שלי", "נשיקות בחורף" וכמובן ה-להיט שלהן "אופנוע" (שבשנת 1968, כשכבר התפרקו, הוקלט כמובן על ידי הזמרת אילנה מתוק והפך מזוהה יותר עמה מאשר עמן).

בשנת 1966 הצמד התפרק, רירי נותרה בישראל והמשיכה להופיע במועדונים שונים עד שהפכה לאשת משפחה ופרשה מעולם הבידור ומקסה חיה בארה"ב ונפטרה לפני כשנה וחצי. גם היא פרשה מתעשיית המוזיקה זמן קצר אחרי פירוק הצמד.
