Maximilian Steiner (born August 27, 1830 in Ofen , Austrian Empire, Austria , 29th May 1880 in Baden near Vienna , Austria-Hungary ) was an Austrian actor and theater director.

In the years 1869 to 1875, Steiner and the actress Marie Geistinger performed the Theater an der Wien . In this function, he was able to win the composer Johann Straußensohn for the theater and with him introduced the classical phase of Viennese operetta .
