Maximilian Steiner (born August 27, 1830 in Ofen , Austrian Empire, Austria , 29th May 1880 in Baden near Vienna , Austria-Hungary ) was an Austrian actor and theater director.
In the years 1869 to 1875, Steiner and the actress Marie Geistinger performed the Theater an der Wien . In this function, he was able to win the composer Johann Straußensohn for the theater and with him introduced the classical phase of Viennese operetta . On the debut Indigo and the 40 robbers (1871) succeeded the great success The bat (1874). When in 1875 Geistinger assumed a longer engagement at the theater in Leipzig , he continued the theater until 1880.
