About Maxine de Beer
Maxine de Beer "Maxie" (1941 - 1998)
Brief overview:
Maxine (57), and her husband Piet (63), were attacked on their farm Doringfontein, in Ottosdal, Wolmaransstad by three armed gunmen on 14th February 1998. The perpetrators did not enter the house, instead bringing it under a hail of gunfire which shattered windows and pierced doors.
Maxine was shot as she tried to call police after Piet was shot in the face and chest while watching TV. Piet only realised Maxie was dead in the passage of their home when, blinded by blood pouring into his eyes, he stumbled to the bedroom to fetch his shotgun. She had been shot in the chest.
Police believe that the attackers were hoping to eliminate the couple and gain access to the house as the de Beer's may have kept money from his farm store there.
