After the Reformation in the Landgraviate of Hesse had been introduced, the monasteries were dissolved, and she turned to back secular things. Landgrave Philip married on 13 may 1527 with the count Konrad of Tecklenburg-Schwerin, who had served as a young nobleman at the Court of Landgrave. The count received as a dowry in the marriage as a Hessian fief parts the County of Hoya, namely the offices of Uchte and Freudenberg with the capital of Bassum. The marriage served to supply by Mechthild, on the other hand it was politically motivated and should strengthen the policy of Philip and the reformation in Germany . Descendants
